Ava's Quote of the Day

I walked in to Ava's room to find her pretending to watch a movie with her Little People toys.  When I asked her what movie she was watching, she told me:

"PBS Kids.org!"

Hum, she doesn't watch too much TV, does she?

Ava's Quote of the Day

It rained most of the day today.  While running our many errands, Ava thought it was silly that the raindrops were getting her so wet.  Later, she had a small accident in her panties and when I asked her why she went pee pee in her pants, she replied:

"Don't worry. Mom.  Its just raindrops."

Once There Was a Snowman

This winter was the mildest winter I can remember Southeast Idaho having in the entire 25 year I’ve lived here.  Honestly, I didn’t mind.  I don’t love snow.  It’s great for Christmas, but I HATE driving in the stuff, and I was just fine with the amount of snow we received this year.  Ava, on the other hand, was always wishing for more.  She was a little obsessed with snowmen this year and was dying to build one of her own.  We would often wake up to snow in the morning, but by the time Zac got home from work, it was usually gone.  (I was feeling less than adventurous this winter.  For good reason, I might add!  I just wasn’t up to snowman building.  Bad mothering, I know!)  But finally, on March 1^st, we got a Saturday afternoon snowfall.  Ava was so excited when Daddy invited her out to FINALLY build her snowman.  She was very particular about which sticks to use for the arms, and which rocks would work best for the face.  The most exciting part?  The carrot nose.  She’d been waiting all year to place that sweet little carrot from grandpa’s garden onto her snowman’s cute face!  She adored that little snowman and had to keep checking on it through the window all day.  Unfortunately, his life was cut short by a 50 degree heat wave that hit the next day.  But I think we all grew to love that little snowman.    

Valentine's Day

Our Valentine’s Day this year was simple and laid back. (Just how we like it!)  I woke up to breakfast, a sweet card, and beautiful tulips –my favorite- from my Zac.  I sure love that guy!  Ava and I spent the morning getting her little princess valentines ready for her cousins and friends.  It was so cute seeing her get so excited to be making treats for her friends.  She is such a sweet girl.  I decided that I wanted to try a fun Valentine’s Day hairdo on Ava.  It turned out pretty cute!  I then watched my friend, Laura’s, little girls while she and her husband went to lunch.  Alea and Lacy happen to be some of Ava’s best friends, so they had a great time playing together.  Even though Lacy is only 6 months, Ava adores her.  She is going to make a great big sister…someday!  When Zac got home from work, he surprised Ava with some treats and a balloon.  She is so in to balloons right now, so she was very excited! 

I made Ava pink scrambled eggs, heart-shaped toast, red apples, and bacon for her dinner.  She loved it.  We then watched Lady and the Tramp together. (That was Ava’s Valentine’s Day gift.)  We then put Ava to bed so Zac and I could start our date.

Zac and I don’t really like going out on Valentine’s Day since everywhere is always so busy, so we decided to do a stay-home date.  We ordered take out from Five Guys.  Fancy, I know!  But we loved it. It was delicious.  I had transformed our front room into a romantic dining room.  It was so nice to have a quiet meal, just the two of us.  We reminisced about old times, and talked about our future hopes and dreams.  We then cuddled on the couch and watched a movie together.  It was a relaxing night together. I’m so thankful I have Zac in my life.  He is the best guy for me.  He is so sweet and patient and I love him so much.    

Cookies

Ava LOVES making cookies.  She asks if we can make them every, single, day.  We finally had a more relaxed day yesterday, so when she asked, I was finally able to say okay!  She was so excited.  Ever since she was a tiny baby, she has always been in the kitchen with me while I cook.  Whenever I’m in the kitchen, she has to be up on the counter and very involved.  I love having a little cooking buddy, even if it creates a little more mess and work for me!  For some reason, she has an obsession with making cookies and “cupcapes”.  She has a set of giant Lego blocks.  Never once has she built a house or a building or anything else you would usually build with blocks.  She always builds “cupcapes” and birthday cakes.  Maybe we have the next Cake Boss on our hands, here!  Anyway, back to our cookie making… I decided to make Valentine’s Day sugar cookies.  I hadn’t made sugar cookies in a really long time and I thought that she might be old enough now to really do some of it by herself.  She really got in to using the rolling pin and she actually did a pretty good job.  She loved cutting out the hearts and stars.  I was amazed with how much she was able to do all by herself.  When the cookies were baked, I told her that we could make frosting and decorate them when Zac got home from work.  She was so excited to show her daddy that she had make cookies all by herself.  It was fun to see her have so much pride in herself.  As soon as Zac walked in the door, the begging to make frosting started.  That girl has a one-tracked mind! We quickly ate dinner and then it was finally time to make the frosting.  She got to pick the colors: red, blue, and purple.  And boy did she have fun.  She kept saying “This is so much fun!”  It made having a messy kitchen and hundreds of sprinkles on my floor all worth it!     

Hello Blogging World

After three years of having “start a blog” on my New Year’s
Resolutions list, it’s finally happening! I’ve been so apprehensive about
starting a blog for a few reasons: 1- I don’t consider myself a very good
writer. (I’m apologizing now for the many spelling and grammatical errors I
know will show up on this blog!) 2- Life
is crazy, and I’m sure I won’t put blogging on the top of my daily to-do
list. Posts will probably be few and far
between, but know that I at least have a desire to update often! 3- I really
don’t think we live a very exciting life, so I’m sure many posts will be quite
boring to all of you. Even though I have
these apprehensions, I’ve decided that they are outweighed by the benefits of “journaling”. I want to use this blog as a way to capture
the daily memories that happen with the Lord’s family. And honestly, we think Ava is a hoot, and
this is a great way to show her off!
